Victor Lester Pennecard

July 30, 1923-March 29, 2025

Victor Lester Pennecard was born July 30, 1923 to Victor Pennecard and Katherine McQueen Pennecard in his maternal grandparents home in Lawyers Canyon. He attended Kamiah grade school through 4th grade, and then finished his schooling at Nezperce, graduating valedictorian of his class.

He was attending Lewiston Normal Teacher School when he was drafted into the Army in 1942.

His basic training was at Camp Swift, Texas. He was assigned to a motorcade in San Antonio and drove officers around Texas.

He was sent overseas arriving in France, January 1,1945. While there he was able to go to England and meet his paternal Grandparents and relatives. He was stationed in Germany where he ran a cabinet shop until March, 1946 when he came home. At that point he began farming with his parents.

In 1954 he married A.Grace Roe, at the Christian Church in Nezperce, ID. They moved into a home four miles northeast of Nezperce, owned by Trudy Weber and there they had six children. In 1965 they moved the family to Nezperce, into a home which they had moved to town from Jim Johnson's place. It was a big house for a large family. It was rare for the family to miss a Sunday at the Nezperce Christian Church where Lester was a deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Being a farmer, summers were quite busy haying and taking care of crops and cattle and kids. But the family did sneak away for the occasional camping trip many times at Red River with Mom's family or to Whitefish, Montana visiting his relatives. In 1974 they moved to the ranch to take care of Lester's dad, Victor.

Lester was very active in the Kamiah VFW having served as Chaplain and Commander. When Lester had his hip replacement they moved to Kamiah for a brief time so dad could walk safely.

After retiring from farming, Lester worked as a crop adjuster which he loved. He and Grace traveled all over the USA adjusting crops. They were also able to travel to England twice to visit his paternal family.

Lester passed away March 29, 2025 at Grangeville Health and Rehab of Cascadia. We are very thankful to all of the wonderful caregivers he had over the years.

Lester is deceased by his parents, his wife Grace, sister Laura Marshall and her husband, Jack Marshall, and a Great Nephew, Shawn Barker, and daughter-in-law, Tracy Pennecard.

He is survived by his children: Mary Lucinda Crea (Mike), Victor Edwin (Laura Weber), Linda Sue Walkup (Larry), Thomas Arthur (Candy), Glenys Grace Hazelbaker (Marty), and Rita Diane Trojan (Jerry). He has many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

His service will be Thursday, April 10. A viewing will be at 1:00pm, service at 1:30 pm at Nezperce Christian Church with social hour in the basement of the Church following the ceremony. Burial to follow at the Nezperce City Cemetery.
