Patricia A. Smith, 89
(1932-2022)
Patricia (Pat) Smith left us to be with her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2022.
Pat was born in 1932 to Etta and Charles Harris. She was number 12 of 13 children raised on a farm in Caney, Kansas. She happily wed George Smith of Coffeeville, Kansas in 1955 and the two of them moved to Los Angeles to start their new life. There they had three children: sons Terrance and Gregory, and daughter Karen. Sadly, Terrance was only in this world for a few days before passing. Pat and George divorced in 1968 but remained good friends until his death in 1980. Pat married Gilbert Schulze in 1972 and divorced in 1980. She then married Raymond Pollitt in 1984. They divorced in 1988. She remained single until her passing.
Pat’s career as a cost engineer for the Ralph M. Parson’s Company spanned a total of 30 years. When she retired, she moved from the big city to the quaint town of Coquille, Oregon then on to and even quainter town, Kamiah, Idaho. She really loved the small-town life and being closed to nature. Her hobbies included gardening, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with friends. She was welcoming to anyone who she met and was always willing to chip in a helping hand where one was needed. Music was also a big part of her life. She loved to sing and was active in the Sweet Adelines in her younger days and spent many years singing in her church choirs. She also enjoyed attending community concerts. Other than her children and grandson, her friends were the light of her life. She especially treasured the hours she spent with her friends from church, including the local Wednesday Girls group.
She was preceded in death by her son Terrance, both parents, all three husbands, and eleven of her 12 siblings. She is survived by her son Greg (Los Angeles, CA), daughter Karen (Kamiah, ID), brother John and wife Joan (Richland, WA), grandson Joshua (29 Palms, CA), as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a strong, independent woman who cherished her relationship with the Lord and she will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at the Kamiah Bible Church on Saturday, September 24th at 11am with dinner to follow.
