We sadly report the passing of James C. Lewis (Jim, Big River Jim) on Feb. 27, 2024, after a long illness.
Jim was born in Kooskia, Idaho, February 22, 1941. He lived in the Kooskia, Kamiah, and Pierce area until enlisting in the U. S. Army. He was stationed in California and Germany. After he left the service, Jim lived and worked in a variety of places. He drove big rigs across the country, drove logging trucks in Alaska, then settled back in the Kamiah area.
He was active in the VFW and volunteered with Kamiah Search and Rescue. Big River Jim enjoyed playing music with his friends and family, which was a big part of his life.
Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, William (Bill) Lewis, Benjamin Hugh Lewis, and his parents,Francis (Red) Lewis, and Dollie Reed Lewis.
He is survived by his children, Dawn M. Taires, James F.H. Lewis (Nikki), Angel Lewis, Patrick Lewis, and grandchildren. Also siblings Franci (Larry) Mueller, Becky Lewis, Terry Lewis, Tressa Brunell, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends.
Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the
Kamiah VFW, or to Kamiah Search and Rescue.
