Gerald Arthur Helms, 86, of Harpster, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on November 12, 2024. Born on September 16, 1938, in Moorhead, Minnesota, he was the beloved son of Arthur Henry Helms and Myrtle Barbara Olson.
Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an electrician aboard various aircraft carriers. Among the highlights of his service was crossing the equator aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, earning him the distinguished title of Shellback-a cherished Navy tradition.
An avid outdoorsman, Gerald loved fishing, hunting, and taking his family on memorable
camping adventures. He will be remembered as a man of determination, a lover of nature, and someone who inspired others through his actions and quiet wisdom.
He is survived by his wife, Alice June Helms; stepchildren, David Wilson, Jody Hansard, Linda McCoy-Fishback (Doug), and Marie Johnson; grandchildren, Valerie Clark, Christopher Wilcox, Elizabeth Wilcox, Isaac Imel, and Rachel Imel; and great-grandson, Preston Wilcox.
Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Gene Helms; stepbrother, Harold Hubbard; and stepson, Jimmy Miller.
Forever casting a line in calm waters and walking forest trails-we will miss you, Gerald.
