Frank Arlie Zimmerman passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 of heart complications due to Covid-19. He had just turned 63.
Dad was born on August 4, 1958 in Taft California, where he attended highschool. He later joined the Army and then the National Guard. Dad was a proud patriot who loved serving his country and did so for seventeen years.
In his twenties, he ventured out to Alaska where he met his wife, Kathy Trainor (Zimmerman). They were married for thirty-one years and had two children, Brooke and Zane Zimmerman.
One of dad's greatest joys in life was being a 'papa.' He absolutely loved his grandson John, son of Zane (Dionne), and everytime they were together laughter would fill the room. Dad was overjoyed when he learned in 2021 that he would have two more grandchildren, one from Zane and Dionne Zimmerman and another from Brooke and Raymond Bingaman.
His love for the outdoors is what brought him and Kathy to Kamiah Idaho. Passionate about fishing, hunting, camping and gardening, dad was proud to live here in "Gods Country." He was a master gardener with a generous heart, always quick to give away produce from his garden. I will never forget the week he went out and bought tons of flower seeds to plant daisies and sunflowers for my wedding.
Alongside serving his country, dad also loved serving his community. For many years he served as an umpire for Babe Ruth and highschool baseball. He was passionate about teaching kids the sport and was never shy to say he was an LA Dodgers fan. When winter came, dad would spend the early morning hours plowing the neighborhood streets, businesses and church parking lots. Even though it was hard on his body at times, i know he loved it and faithfully served until his truck stopped running.
More than his love for the outdoors or serving others, dad knew and loved Jesus. Each morning, with pen in hand, he would write down the prayer requests of others, taking them to the feet of Jesus.
Though we miss dad deeply, we know that he is in the presence of Jesus and every tear has been wiped from his eyes.
In addition to Kathy, Brooke (Raymond), Zane (Dionne), and grandson John, Frank is survived by his mother, Judy Leonard; Step- father, Jack Leonard; twin brother, Fred Zimmerman; and sister, Cynthia Zimmerman Anderson. Along with many other nieces and nephews, he will be greatly missed.
Revelation 21:4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
